Charge Nurse (RN)-$1,500 Sign On Bonus

PPGOH provides essential reproductive health care services to women and men. Our services are designed to help people make lifelong informed choices that focus on responsibility, prevention of unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, and reproductive cancers.

The Charge Nurse is responsible for the management of nursing services provided in the surgery center. This position functions alongside the physician staff as the clinical team lead for surgical services. This position requires a collaborative team approach to operating the surgical center alongside the Surgical Services Site Supervisor to ensure the highest level of patient care. In addition to providing direct patient care responsibilities, the Charge Nurse works to ensure the surgical area flows efficiently and effectively according to PPGOH standards and guidelines as well as operating in compliance to all applicable regulatory bodies. This individual will also act as a facilitator, mentor, and preceptor for clinical staff (RN/LPN). The Charge Nurse is expected to divide time between clinical work and administrative work as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES†include the following:

  • Responsible for the direction and management of nursing services (meeting the requirements of OAC 3701-83-18), clinical quality, efficiency, and compliance to regulatory bodies for the surgical facility:
  • Manages the day-to-day of the surgical patient care area; directing and developing nursing staff; collaborating with physicians and other clinic staff as needed to ensure the highest level of patient care.
  • Provide support to the Site Supervisor and the Practice Manager of Surgical Services ensuring high quality care is provided, excellent compliance to regulatory bodies is maintained, client flow in the surgical area is effective and efficient, and that staffing and other medical issues are monitored and discussed.
  • Works collaboratively with the Site Supervisor when hiring nursing staff and provides feedback in regards to nursing staff performance as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with the risk and quality management team to direct the PPGOH infection prevention program at the surgery center and to establish and follow written infection control policies and procedures for the surveillance, control, prevention and reporting of communicable disease organisms.
  • Trains new or temporary surgical nursing staff as needed.
  • Participates in excellent clinical nursing care:
  • Prepare charts and patient for exam and procedures.
  • Lead, document and direct all emergency medical procedures and measures as required.
  • Arrange emergency transport of patients to local emergency rooms.
  • Start IVís for patient sedation and emergencies.
  • Assist physician with procedures.
  • Facilitate dispensing and/or administration of medications, birth control and controlled substances as directed by clinician.
  • Perform and record appropriate lab tests, vital signs and triage abnormal results.
  • Assist with recovery room duties, monitoring patients for medical and emotional needs as necessary including review of discharge instructions.
  • Evaluate, screen and refer (to clinician when appropriate) post-abortion complications including on call availability after hours.
  • Provide the appropriate follow-up care to patients per PPGOH Medical Standards & Guidelines.
  • In collaboration with the Site Supervisor assign duties to nursing staff according to training/education competency levels and within appropriate scope of practice.
  • Provide education/in-services on equipment and/or procedures as needed.
  • Work with staff to identify potential/actual problems, plan and implement actions to correct problems. Document action plan and file as appropriate.
  • Take nursing call after hours.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

LEVEL THREE: B.S. /B.A. plus 3 years practice management experience preferred. Experience in surgical and recovery room nursing care required. Experience demonstrating excellent customer service, strong written and oral communication skills, operating in a trustworthy and nonjudgmental manner, and ability to work with individuals of a diverse socioeconomic background.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

LEVEL TWO: Strong spoken and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

LEVEL TWO:Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

LEVEL THREE:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to take decisive action.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Active Ohio RN license required

CPR/ BLS Certification required

ACLS Certification required

Valid driverís license
